On this day, August 30, In 1987, dry thunderstorms produced over a thousand lightning strikes and hundreds of fires in southern Oregon. This was Oregon's second worst fire. In 1999, extreme cold and early season mountain snow fell over central and eastern Oregon. Pendleton, Oregon only reached 58 degrees, the lowest high temperature ever recorded for August.
