...2006 NATIONAL FLOOD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK...

NATIONAL FLOOD SAFETY AWARENESS WEEK CONTINUES WITH THE THEME OF...THE ADVANCED HYDROLOGIC PREDICTION SERVICE...ALSO KNOWN AS AHPS.

AHPS IS AN ONGOING EFFORT TO MODERNIZE HYDROLOGIC SERVICES AND IS ALSO REFERRED TO AS ...WATER PREDICTIONS FOR LIFE DECISIONS. AHPS PROVIDES INFORMATION SUCH AS

HOW HIGH WILL THE RIVER RISE?

WHEN WILL THE RIVER REACH ITS PEAK?

WHERE WILL THE FLOODING OCCUR?

HOW LONG WILL THE FLOOD LAST?

HOW LONG WILL THE DROUGHT LAST?

HOW CERTAIN IS THE FORECAST?

THIS SERVICE PROVIDES NEW FORECAST INFORMATION INCLUDING MORE ACCURATE PREDICTIONS OF THE MAGNITUDE AND LIKELIHOOD OF HYDROLOGIC EVENTS…RANGING FROM DROUGHTS TO FLOODS. TIMELY INFORMATION ALLOWS WATER MANAGERS AND OTHER OFFICIALS TO MAKE DECISIONS ABOUT WATER ALLOCATION AND ECONOMICS.
