A strong upper level high pressure system combined with weak offshore flow will bring another very warm day across much of Southern California on Friday. While most coastal and valley areas will likely see some cooling on Friday…especially areas near the immediate coast…there will be little change in temperatures across the mountains and Antelope Valley. Since record highs for the date are much lower on Friday, there will likely be more stations reaching record levels. More significant cooling is then expected over the weekend…with temperatures returning closer to normal by Sunday. Residents of Southern California and people planning to visit the area are advised to monitor the latest forecasts. Know the signs of heat stress. If planning outdoor activities, it is advised to schedule these activities during the cooler parts of the day such as the morning or evening hours. If activities cannot be rescheduled, avoid direct sunlight and seek shaded areas, if possible. Persons performing strenuous outdoor activities should wear light-colored and light-weight clothing and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of non-alcoholic fluids such as water. Never, ever, leave children, pets, or the elderly alone in the car. Remember to look before you lock. (click for more)
