Microbursts

• Strong downdrafts created by falling precipitation and cooler air descending toward the ground

• Damaging wind impact usually less than 3 miles wide

• Can be associated with either a heavy precipitation or non-precipitation thunderstorm

• Often occurs in the dissipating stage of a thunderstorm
