• Signifies the area of strongest updraft

• A lowering cloud attached to the rain-free base of a thunderstorm

• Usually located south or southwest of the visible precipitation area

• Rotation of the persistent low cloud area may be observed

• Most likely area for funnel cloud or tornado development
