Bufkit Information

The BUFKIT program is a free computer program developed by the National Weather Service office in Buffalo, NY and the Warning Decision Training Branch in Norman, OK.

The program is an excellent tool for analysing model based atmosperic sounding data. If you have a need or interest in graphically viewing and analyzing this type of sounding data then this program is for you. Here is a screen snapshot of the 'main interface'. There is also a 'time-height' view if you want to view all of the sounding's hourly forecasts at once.

You can download the program from http://www.erh.noaa.gov/buf/bufkit/bufkit.html There is also additional information about the program at this web site.

The data files for these soundings are available in many locations on the internet. Try the NWS Spokane's Bufkit web site at http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/otx/bufkit/bufkit.php for a start.

If you need additional data then try: http://www.wbuf.noaa.gov/bufkit/prof.html or search the web for 'Bufkit Data'.
