The public is invited to attend our Open House
this Saturday, October 3rd, from 10am to 4pm.
   
Events:

-- Take a self-guided tour of the office (30 min to 1 hour); visit various displays and work stations throughout the office.

-- Visit special booths staffed by personnel from Spokane County Department of Emergency Management, Spokane County ARES/RACES, American Red Cross, Eastern Washington Center for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, and others.

--Learn more about NOAA Weather Radio and see demonstrations of the advanced forecaster workstations and how a weather forecast is created.

--Meet a senior hydrologist from the NWS River Forecast Center in Portland, OR

-- See the only weather radar in the Inland Northwest

-- Official weather balloons will be launched at 11 am and 4 pm. At other times, special pilot weather balloons (pibals) will be launched at least every hour.

-- Check out "Kids Korner" where a variety of hands-on activities will be available. Kids can take home a personalized NWS Forecast Badge and create a weather mobile or wind streamer.

-- Visit the fire weather booth and talk with Incident Response Meteorologists.

-- Presentations will be given on the latest seasonal outlook as well as various NWS products and services available on the web.

Where

Our office is located just northwest of Airway Heights off Rambo Road.

  • Follow HWY 2 through Airway Heights.
  • Turn right on Rambo Road (about 3/4 mile west of Airway Heights).
  • Follow Rambo Road north about 2.5 miles and turn left into the NWS Spokane office parking lot. (look for the big, white dome)
Theme A fun-filled educational time in which information is provided to the general public through tours, various demonstrations (including real-time weather equipment, fire weather, and a weather balloon), displays and talks by National Weather Service staff members.
