May is quickly passing by, and Phoenix has yet to record a temperature of 100 ºF. The highest
temperature so far has been 99 ºF, which was observed on April 29. How unusual is this? Not very.
On average over the past thirty years, the first 100 ºF day has occurred by May 1, though historically
it has occurred as late as June 18 (1913). While it may feel as if this spring has been rather cool,
statistically it has not. Based on observations since 1896, this spring (March 1 - May 7) is the 12th

Will 100 ºF occur anytime soon? Based on the current forecast, it does not look likely. Persistent
northwest flow across the region will help keep temperatures near seasonable normals (lower to mid 90s). Check
