What if I do not hear an EAS message the first time it is
played?
The audio portion of an Emergency Alert System (EAS) message
from National, State, County or Local emergency
management officials is now recorded to permit multiple airings
on Weather Radio. The initial EAS message is automatically
transmitted on NOAA Weather Radio with the warning alarm
feature. Once received, NWS Seattle staff move the
recorded audio message to all our western Washington NOAA
Weather Radio transmitters so you can hear the message again.
This process usually takes about 5 minutes.
So, if you did not hear the entire
message the first time, the message will be on the air again in
a few minutes, permitting you to understand the message and take
whatever action is needed to protect lives and property.
National Weather Service Mission: "The
National Weather Service (NWS) provides weather,
hydrologic, and climate forecasts and warnings for
the United States, its territories, adjacent waters
and ocean areas, for the protection of life and
property and the enhancement of the national economy.
NWS data and products form a national information
database and infrastructure which can be used by
other governmental agencies, the private sector,
the public, and the global community."
