General Information
The files found on this service can be overlayed on shapefiles for your area of interest (ie. forest district, county, etc...) This will provide you with greater flexibility to use National Weather Service forecast data specifically to fit your needs.

Zipped Files
Clicking on any of the links will allow you to download a zipped shapefile from our digital forecast database. Maximum Temperature/RH and Minimum Temperature/RH polygons are available in the daily files. 3 hourly Temperature, Sky Cover, Wind direction and magnitude, and Relative Humidity polygons are available in the 3 hour files.

WindowsXP comes standard with a Zip file reader, so all you need to do is double click on the file. If you are not running WindowsXP, you may need to download a Zip reader software, like pkzip first to unzip the shape files.

Forecast Times
These grids are made up of unique values at 2.5 km resolution, or roughly square boxes 1 mile by 1 mile large. Forecasts are available at up to 3-hourly resolution and out as far as 7 days.

Explanation of Weather Elements

MaxTemp(Maximum Temperature) - The daytime maximum temperature in degrees Fahrenheit out 7 days.

MinTemp(Minimum Termperature) - The overnight minimum temperature in degrees Fahrenheit out 7 days.
MinRH/MaxRH and RH(Relative Humidity) - The ratio, expressed as a percent, of the amount of atmospheric moisture present relative to the amount that would be present if the air were saturated. Since the latter amount is dependent on temperature, relative humidity is a function of both moisture content and temperature. Max and Min values are the highest and lowest value for a given day. 3 Hour values are valid for that 3 hour period.

WindMag(Wind Speed) The expected sustained 10-meter sustained wind speed (in knots) for the beginning hour of the period. Displayed every three hours.

WindDir(Wind Direction) - The expected sustained 10-meter wind direction from which the wind is blowing for the beginning hour of the period, using 36 points of a compass. Displayed every three hours.

Temp The temperature for the first hour of the 3 hour period.
SkyCover The percentage of sky covered by clouds for the 3 hour period. Displayed every three hours.
Elevation The elevation for that 2.5 km gridpoint.
