The Salt Lake City National Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Office has been chosen to participate in a Facebook Prototype Project. The NWS Facebook Prototype Team, formed in the spring of 2010, is exploring the application of Facebook as a tool to expand the reach of NWS information at field offices and national centers. The Team is testing prototype Facebook pages at National Weather Service offices across the nation  to determine how to best utilize this form of social media in NWS operations and extend the NWS reach of environmental and other information through social media outlets. The Salt Lake City, UT Weather Forecast Office will post a mixture of forecast information and outreach/educational content to the page. Forecasters will also monitor the page for comments from the public, including spotter reports.
