Privacy Policy
Thank you for visiting the Sacramento National Weather Service web site. This policy establishes
how we will handle information we learn about you from your visit to our web site.
Please be assured that the privacy of our visitors is of utmost importance to us.
- Information presented on these pages is considered public information and may be
distributed or copied. Use of appropriate byline/photo/image credits is
mandatory.
- For site management, information is collected for statistical purposes. For each
http request received, only the following information is collected and stored: the
date and time, the originating IP address, the object requested, and the completion
status of the request. This information is used to measure the number of visitors
to the different sections of our site, and to help make the site more useful to
visitors. This includes analyzing these logs periodically to determine the
traffic through the servers, the number of pages served, and the level of demand for
pages of interest during a month. The logs may be preserved indefinitely and
used at any time and in any way necessary to prevent security breaches and to ensure
the integrity of the data on our servers. No data is collected nor sought related
to the specific users of the servers.
- By sending us an electronic mail message (for example, an
e-mail message containing a storm report), you may be sending
us personally identifying information (e.g., name, address,
e-mail address, spotter id). In these cases, we may store
the personally identifying information of the requester in order
to respond to the request or to otherwise resolve the subject
matter of your e-mail.
- When sending an Electronic Weather Spotter Report,
your e-mail address is temporarily collected and used to send you a message confirming receipt of your report. Your e-mail address will be used
for no other purposes and no record will be kept once the confirmation message is sent.
- Except for authorized law enforcement investigations, no other attempts are made to
identify individual users or their usage habits. Raw data logs are used for no
other purposes and are scheduled for regular destruction in accordance with
National Archives and Records Administration General Schedule 20.
- For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all
users, this government computer system employs software programs to monitor
network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information,
or otherwise cause damage.
- Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service
are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud
and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.
- This Privacy Notice applies to this web site (National Weather Service - Sacramento,
CA). Some organizations within the National Oceanic and Atmospheric
