After causing considerable damage near the southern Baja California resorts, hurricane John dissipated rapidly as he tracked over Baja California and not the warm waters of the Gulf of California. Much of the remnant moisture was swept northeast into New Mexico, where over 3 inches of rain fell. However, up to an inch of rain fell over parts of southeast Cochise County.
