The Ocean Weather Product Development Team, (OWPDT), consists of a group of university, government, military and airline scientists tasked to develop ocean weather products and make them available to the aviation community. The project is sponsored by the FAA's Aviation Weather Research Program.

The team is developing intelligent weather systems that generate timely information on convective weather; turbulence both from convection and clear air turbulence; high resolution winds, volcanic ash, and in flight icing. We are looking into rapid product generation and methods for timely dissemination to air traffic controllers, dispatchers, and airborne flight crews.
